Where Does Camtasia Store Recordings and Projects?
Camtasia stores recorder files (.trec) in a default Documents or Movies folder and stores projects where you save them. Standalone projects embed media for portability.

Recorder output (.trec) and project files use different locations. Recorder output goes to a default folder unless you enable prompt for file name.
Projects (.tscproj on current versions, .cmproj on older Mac versions) include timeline edits and references to media. Saving as standalone embeds a copy of media.

Default for .trec recordings from Camtasia Recorder. Change in Recorder > Tools > Preferences > Files by enabling prompt for file name. Projects (.tscproj) default to location chosen in File > Save As, often Documents. Replace <username> with Windows user name.
~/Movies/Camtasia/Temporary Recordings
Default for .trec recordings on Mac. Full form is /Users/<username>/Movies/Camtasia/Temporary Recordings. Parent default is ~/Movies. Recordings auto delete after 14 days if unused unless changed in Camtasia > Settings > Recording. Projects (.tscproj, older .cmproj) live where saved.

What is the difference between .trec and project files?
.trec holds screen, camera, audio and cursor data from Recorder and can only be opened in Camtasia Editor. Project files (.tscproj, older Mac .cmproj) hold timeline edits and media bin contents. Produce final video via Share > Export.
How do I share a project without missing media?
Save with Create standalone project enabled, then use File > Export > Zipped Project (Windows) or File > Export > Project for Windows/Mac (Mac). The zip includes project file and media bin contents for transfer.
