Where Does the Tuta Desktop App Store Local Data?
Tuta desktop client data folders on Windows, macOS and Linux with offline mailbox cache.
Last updated
The Tuta desktop client keeps an encrypted offline copy of recent mail, calendar and contacts when you store the password in the app. The authoritative mailbox still lives on Tuta servers under zero-knowledge encryption.
Tuta documents the per-platform data roots in its support pages. Failed import and export files land in mailbox-ID subfolders worth knowing when debugging.
Where Tuta stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\tutanota-desktop
Holds the offline cache plus current_imports and current_exports per mailbox ID. Mail re-syncs from your account, so clearing this only drops the local copy.
~/Library/Application Support/tutanota-desktop
Same offline cache and import folders as Windows. Reach it through Finder Go > Go to Folder.
~/.config/tutanota-desktop
Same layout as the other builds. The client needs a secret-storage provider on Linux to encrypt stored credentials.
Frequently asked questions
Will reinstalling Tuta desktop delete my emails?
No. Mail, calendar and contacts live encrypted on Tuta servers and return on sign-in. Only the offline cache is local.
Where do Tuta import failures go?
Into failed-mails under current_imports for your mailbox ID inside the folders above. Check there before retrying a stuck import.
