Where Does Lutris Install Games?
Lutris keeps game installs in a Games folder in the home directory by default. Runners and settings live in hidden config and data folders.
Last updated
Lutris separates user game files from program data. Game installs default to a visible folder while runners and runtimes sit under local share with the game database.
Per game and global options are stored as text files under the config folder. Changing the install path in Preferences affects new installs only and leaves current games in place.
Where Lutris stores this, by platform
/home/<username>/Games
<username> is your Linux login name. Default root for new installs. Each game uses a subfolder named after its slug. Custom library folders are set in Lutris Preferences.
/home/<username>/.local/share/lutris/runners
<username> is your Linux login name. Holds Wine and emulator builds downloaded by Lutris. Do not delete manually while games depend on those versions.
/home/<username>/.config/lutris
<username> is your Linux login name. Holds lutris.conf and per game files in games subfolder plus pga.db cache. Copy this folder plus the Games folder for a full backup.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move a Lutris game to another drive?
Move the game folder, then open Configure for that game and update the install folder or executable path. Lutris does not update moved paths on its own.
Where is the Lutris game database?
Game records and cover art sit under local share in the lutris data folder. Config text files sit under config in the lutris folder. Back up both locations for a full restore.
