Where Are Dead by Daylight Saves and Configs?

Dead by Daylight stores progression on Behaviour servers, while settings and local cache live in AppData. This covers the Steam config path and cloud behavior.

Last updated

Dead by Daylight does not use a traditional local save file for unlocks and ranks. Progression is tied to your Behaviour account and Steam account, so reinstalling does not wipe levels.

Local files still matter for graphics settings, keybinds and troubleshooting. The paths below cover the Steam Windows client and Steam Cloud data.

Where Dead by Daylight stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

<username> is your Windows user name. Contains GameUserSettings.ini, Engine.ini and Input.ini. Steam userdata for AppID 381210 is at <SteamLibrary>\userdata\<SteamID>\381210\remote, where <SteamLibrary> is your Steam folder and <SteamID> is your numeric Steam account folder. Backing up local files does not back up ranks or unlocks because those are server side. EasyAntiCheat runs at launch and may block modified executables but does not move save data.

Frequently asked questions

Can I back up my Dead by Daylight progress manually?

No. Ranks, Bloodweb progress and purchases are stored on Behaviour servers. Local backup only preserves graphics and input settings.

Does Dead by Daylight use Steam Cloud?

Yes for some local data, but progression remains server side. If settings do not sync, check Steam properties for the game and confirm Steam Cloud is enabled.
