Where Are Project Zomboid Saves Located?
Project Zomboid Saves folder under the Zomboid home directory on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Last updated
Project Zomboid keeps everything in a Zomboid folder directly in your home directory, not in Documents or AppData. Saves, server settings, logs and Lua console output all live there.
Each playthrough is a subfolder under Saves, split by mode (Sandbox, Survival, Apocalypse). Backing up the Zomboid folder preserves characters, maps and server configs together.
Where Project Zomboid stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Zomboid\Saves
Unusually placed straight in the user profile. Server setups and logs sit in sibling folders (Server, Logs) under the same Zomboid root.
~/Zomboid/Saves
Same home relative layout as Windows. Exact path may vary by install type; look for the Zomboid folder in your home directory first.
~/Zomboid/Saves
Same home relative layout. Dedicated servers use this tree too, which makes server migration a plain folder copy.
Frequently asked questions
How do I back up a Project Zomboid run?
Copy its subfolder out of Saves. For servers, also copy the matching Server config folder so settings travel with the world.
Why is there no Zomboid folder at all?
It appears after the first launch and world creation. Start a game, save and quit, then look again.
