Where Does Premiere Pro Save Auto-Saves?
Premiere Pro auto-save folder location, and why it is next to your project by default instead of one fixed path.
Last updated
By default Premiere Pro puts auto-saves in an Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save folder next to your project file, not in one global location. Look beside the .prproj first.
The wrinkle is that Scratch Disks can redirect it. File, then Project Settings, then Scratch Disks shows the Project Auto Save path in force for the open project.
Where Premiere Pro stores this, by platform
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro
This holds versioned preferences and caches. Actual auto-saves default to a folder beside your .prproj. Check Scratch Disks for the live path, since it moves per project.
~/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro
Same split as Windows: preferences here, auto-saves beside the project unless Scratch Disks points elsewhere.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the auto-save path for the open project?
Open File, Project Settings, Scratch Disks, and read the Project Auto Save row. That path wins over any default.
Can I recover a crashed project from auto-saves?
Yes. Open the newest file in the Adobe Premiere Pro Auto-Save folder next to your project and save it under a fresh name.
