Opening an attachment directly from Outlook extracts it to a hidden SecureTemp folder (Content.Outlook plus a random OLK name). Editing that copy and closing without saving elsewhere loses the work.
Always Save As first. The temp copy cleans itself on a schedule, which is exactly when people discover their edits lived only there.

Classic builds used Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook instead. The random OLK subfolder name differs per profile; sort by date to find recent opens.
