Where Does Mumble Store Settings and Certificates?
Mumble mumble.sqlite database plus registry, plist or conf settings on Windows, macOS and Linux.
Last updated
Mumble splits identity from preferences: certificates and local data in mumble.sqlite, UI settings in the registry on Windows, a plist on Mac, a conf file on Linux.
Back up both halves. The sqlite holds who you are to servers; the settings half holds audio tuning that took an hour to perfect.
Where Mumble stores this, by platform
%APPDATA%\Mumble\mumble.sqlite
Preferences in HKCU Software Mumble Mumble registry key. Portable mode (ini next to exe) keeps everything local instead.
~/Library/Application Support/Mumble/Mumble/.mumble.sqlite
Preferences in ~/Library/Preferences/net.sourceforge.mumble.Mumble.plist. In Finder use Go > Go to Folder.
~/.local/share/Mumble/Mumble/mumble.sqlite
Preferences in ~/.config/Mumble/Mumble.conf. The conf key datavaselocation can relocate the database.
Frequently asked questions
How do I move my Mumble identity to a new PC?
Export the certificate from Configure, Certificate Wizard first, then copy mumble.sqlite. The export plus password beats raw file surgery.
Why did Mumble forget my servers?
Favorites live in the settings half, not the sqlite. Restore the registry/plist/conf side too, not just the database.
