Where Are MSI Afterburner Profiles Stored?

MSI Afterburner stores overclocking profiles and program settings in its install folder on Windows. Copy the Profiles folder and MSIAfterburner.cfg to back up the setup.

Last updated

By default MSI Afterburner keeps settings in its program folder rather than in AppData. The Profiles subfolder holds per GPU files and the root CFG file holds global options.

The exact folder follows the install location selected in setup. Most systems use the 32 bit Program Files path even on 64 bit Windows.

Where MSI Afterburner stores this, by platform

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\Profiles

Holds per GPU profile CFG files. File names include VEN and DEV hardware IDs. Path changes if a custom install folder was selected during setup.

Windows
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.cfg

Main config file with general settings, monitoring layout, and profile slots. Close MSI Afterburner before copying it. Admin rights may be needed to write to this folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I back up MSI Afterburner settings?

Close MSI Afterburner, then copy the Profiles folder and MSIAfterburner.cfg to a safe location. Restore them to the same install folder after reinstalling.

Why do I not see profiles in AppData?

MSI Afterburner uses a local install folder model for these files. Portable and standard installs both keep profiles under the program folder, not under Roaming or Local AppData.
