Where Does minikube Store Clusters?

minikube profiles, cache and config.json in ~/.minikube on all desktop platforms.

Last updated

minikube keeps profiles, cached ISOs and config.json in a .minikube folder in home. Kubeconfig entries point at these clusters from ~/.kube.

Profiles isolate clusters. Deleting the folder orphans kubeconfig entries, so use minikube delete for clean removal.

Where minikube stores this, by platform

Windows
%USERPROFILE%\.minikube

Holds profiles, cache and config.json. Same path on all platforms. Manage with minikube commands; kubeconfig lives separately in ~/.kube.

Linux
~/.minikube

Same layout. Driver VMs (Docker, QEMU) store disks in their own backends outside this tree.

Frequently asked questions

How do I free minikube disk space?

Run minikube delete to remove a cluster and its disk image. The profiles folder holds per-cluster state; cache holds pre-pulled ISOs shared across clusters.
