Where Are Apple Books Stored on Mac?

Downloaded Apple Books live as epub files under the BKAgentService container, in Documents, then iBooks, then Books. Annotations and positions sit in a separate AEAnnotation database.
Older guides cite the com.apple.BKAgentService path without Documents; current builds nest one deeper. Imports you add manually land in the same Books folder.
Where macOS stores this, by platform
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books
Annotations database (AEAnnotation) beside Books. In Finder use Go > Go to Folder. Exact nesting may vary by macOS version.

Can I copy Apple Books epubs to another reader?
Only DRM free ones open elsewhere. Store purchases stay locked to Apple Books even as plain epub files.
Where are my highlights and notes?
In the AEAnnotation database next to Books, not in the epubs. Back up both together to keep them.
