Where Does KeePass Store Config and Databases?
KeePass config file location on Windows; databases (.kdbx) live wherever you save them.
Last updated
KeePass separates config from data. The app config (KeePass.config.xml) lives in AppData; your encrypted .kdbx database lives wherever you put it.
Backups target the .kdbx file, not the config. Losing the database file (and its key) means losing everything.
Where KeePass stores this, by platform
Windows
%APPDATA%\KeePass
Holds KeePass.config.xml with UI prefs. Databases (.kdbx) are user-placed files; search for *.kdbx to find them. Close KeePass before copying config.
Frequently asked questions
Where is my KeePass password database?
Your .kdbx database file is wherever you saved it (Documents by default, but user-chosen). The config file below holds window and UI prefs only, never passwords.
