Where Is the Helix Config File?
Helix config.toml and languages.toml in ~/.config/helix on all desktop platforms.
Last updated
Helix reads config.toml and languages.toml from a helix folder in the OS config home. Themes, keys and language servers split across the two files.
Missing files mean defaults. Create only what you override; the built-ins cover the rest sensibly.
Where Helix stores this, by platform
Linux
~/.config/helix/config.toml
Holds config.toml, languages.toml and runtime additions. Same filenames on all platforms. Open from inside with :config-open.
Windows
%APPDATA%\helix\config.toml
Same role. Windows builds use %APPDATA%\helix with identical filenames.
Frequently asked questions
How do I configure Helix?
Create config.toml for theme, editor and key options plus languages.toml for language servers. :config-open jumps straight to the folder from inside Helix.
