Where Does BlueStacks Store Data?
BlueStacks 5 keeps program files and emulator user data in separate folders. User data holds virtual disks and shared files.
Last updated
Default program files are in C:\Program Files\BlueStacks_nxt\. Default user data is in C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks_nxt\ with per instance data under Engine\. Custom installs place user data under the chosen install folder instead.
Engine folders contain Data.vhdx virtual disks, bluestacks.conf, and SharedFolder for transfers. Confirm the live value in config and installer paths since admins change defaults with custom locations.
Where BlueStacks stores this, by platform
C:\ProgramData\BlueStacks_nxt\
Program files stay at C:\Program Files\BlueStacks_nxt\. Instance disks are Engine\<instance>\Data.vhdx. Transfers use Engine\UserData\SharedFolder. Show hidden items to see ProgramData and close BlueStacks before copying disks.
Frequently asked questions
Where are game saves and media files?
Saves inside apps live in the instance Data.vhdx virtual disk under Engine. Use Media Manager Export to Windows or SharedFolder to move files to the PC. Back up with Settings then User data before reinstall.
Why is ProgramData in a different drive?
A custom install moves user data under the selected install path. Check bluestacks.conf and the Engine Manager files for the current path. Restore backups only to a matching version and instance type.
